Quantum Outback
The Quantum Outback is built for people who want to take their powerchair well beyond pavements and smooth paths, and actually enjoy where they go. With large, aggressive 15-inch tyres and generous ground clearance of around 12.5 cm, it is designed to cope with uneven ground, loose surfaces and changing terrain with confidence. This is the sort of chair that opens up places most powerchairs simply cannot reach, whether that’s gravel paths, grassy tracks, woodland routes or coastal trails.
In practical terms, that means locations like Ashdown Forest, parkland, bridleways, and even the rougher paths around places such as Beachy Head become realistic destinations rather than wishful thinking. The Outback is rated to manage slopes of up to around 8 degrees, and the combination of wide tyres and Quantum’s Smooth Ride Suspension helps it stay composed when the ground is far from flat. Bumps, ruts and uneven surfaces are absorbed rather than transmitted straight through the seat, which makes longer outdoor journeys far more comfortable than you might expect from a powerchair.
Power comes from twin high-capacity 95 Ah batteries, giving a real-world outdoor range of up to around 17 miles. That’s enough for proper days out rather than short excursions close to home. A full LED lighting package is fitted as standard, which is useful not just at night, but also in dull coastal weather or shaded woodland paths.
Seating can be tailored depending on how the chair will be used. The Contoured Seating option is robust and practical, with wipe-clean upholstery, adjustable seat depth, a removable cushion, optional flip-up supports and a manually reclining backrest. It also offers a higher weight capacity of up to 159 kg, making it a good choice where durability and simplicity matter most for outdoor use.
Alternatively, the Outback can be specified with Quantum’s Tru-Balance 3 seating system, supporting users up to 136 kg and allowing more advanced comfort options. Powered tilt, powered recline and up to 10 degrees of seat elevation can be added, making it easier to change position during long days out and manage comfort when spending extended periods in the chair. This version suits people who want outdoor capability without giving up the benefits of powered seating.
Visually, the Outback leans into its adventurous character. Matte finishes and camouflage options suit its off-road personality, and practical accessories such as a glove box, phone holder and reflectors can be added to support longer trips and outdoor use.
The Quantum Outback is not a compact indoor chair and it is not designed for tight café spaces or narrow shop aisles. What it does exceptionally well is give you confidence to go further, explore more, and enjoy places that most powerchairs never reach. For people who want their mobility to support an active, outdoor lifestyle rather than limit it, the Outback is one of the most capable options available.
